Our Vision Statement
Our “Vision Statement” is the future, where we are headed, and the desired long term results of our efforts (that’s why it is listed first). The Steam Locomotive Operation Group, Inc. is a Publicly Supported Charity for the purpose to educate the general public on the operations of steam powered locomotives by facilitating the opportunity to gain experience and learn specific skills associated with the operation of steam locomotives. This includes, but is not limited to, the instruction, training, theories, practices, art & skills associated with the safe operation of steam locomotives, and includes the responsibilities of the positions of engineer, fireman, trainman, conductor, shop employee, and the many facets of steam locomotive restoration.
Our goal is to promote the ability for as many people as possible the opportunity to understand and safely operate steam powered locomotives. Developing interest, enthusiasm, knowledge, and understanding of steam locomotive operation stimulates an appreciation of the industrial and technological heritage that was integral to the building of America. Our Vision;

Our Mission Statement
Our “Mission Statement” is akin to a business plan. It is a statement of what we are trying to do as an organization. The Steam Locomotive Operations Group Inc.’s primary mission is to provide grants that help provide hands-on training that educates, promotes or provides the opportunity for the public to learn the skills associated with the safe operation of steam locomotives. These grants can also be made for the restoration of Steam Locomotives which will be used in part for the education of steam locomotive operations.
This includes, but is not limited to, the theories, practices, art & skills of steam locomotive operations, the responsibilities of the positions of engineer, fireman, trainman, conductor, shop employee, and the many facets of steam locomotive restoration.
The Steam Locomotive Operations Group Inc. will also provide seminars, forums, and discussion groups to the general public as part of its education responsibilities.
Our Culture Statement
The Steam Locomotive Operation Group Corporation’s Directors and volunteers are a hybrid group of railroad inquisitive enthusiasts. We are modelers, photographers, train riders, historians, and more who, as a group, have extensive experience operating steam locomotives.
We are all of those things – an inclusive organization that values diversity, equality, and a willingness to work together to promote steam locomotive operation.
All of our varied railroad interests and experiences contribute to a fascinating, collaborative, energetic group of people that learn from each other, support each other, and just plain have fun together.
